The Bock Winery is one of Villány’s most distinguished wineries

Bock produces only quality wines, most of which are sold to Hungarian gastronomic and wine outlets.

Every day, at fixed times, there are guided tours around our cellar, where you can catch a glimpse of th winemaker’s craft: you can also go around the wine processing plant.

Bock vineyard Estates

Bock estates are situated in the south of Hungary, in the Villány wine region. At present Bock cultivates 80 hectares of our own and another 70 hectares of integrated land. Their estates are in the best locations of the Villány wine region (Ördögárok, Jammertál, Makár, Fekete-hegy, Bocor, Kopár-dűlő), where for the most part red grape types are grown.

Celler

BOCK

Bock Cellar, which can be visited freely, is a two-storey structure and therefore operates as processing plant, warehouse and cellar all in one. Construction began in 1994, and it was completed in three phases (1994-1996, 1998-1999, 2002-2003). In 2008-2012 new investment took place, in the course of which were constructed for the processing and storing of wine a number of “room cellars”, a processing plant, two cellar wings (one 30 and the other 100 metres long) and a circular cellar. Storage capacity rose: at present we have at our disposal 1,400 barrique barrels as well as a steel container suitable for storing 2,300 hl.

Bock Chapel, circular cellar

BOCK

At the end of the Bock 100-metre Cellar can be found the interestingly formed circular cellar, otherwise known as the Bock Chapel. Due to its special acoustics, lighting technology and atmosphere it is an excellent venue for concerts and wedding ceremonies of 100-120 people.

Processing plant
Between 1996 and 2003 our winery built a modern processing plant which conforms to European Union requirements.

In 2008-2009 further investment took place, in the course of which a larger plant was constructed for the processing and storage of wine (raising our capacity to 2300hl). The technology required – press, crusher, sorting table, fork-lift trucks, pumps – were also further developed.

Bottling plant
In the beginning we bottled our wines at the Villány State Farm; then, from 1988, in line with the technology of the day, we continued our work at the Jammertál family cellar. We bought our first production line in 1997, the present one, which bottles, labels and vacuum corks, being purchased in 2009.

Apart from the Rosé Cuvee and Kékfrankos Rosé wines, which are screw-topped, we exclusively use original cork to cork our wines.

BOCK FAMILY

The Bock family is truly a national and international success story: this is borne out by our award-winning wines, our gastronomic successes and satisfied returning customers.

The Bock Cellar is a family enterprise. Viticulture and wine-making has been a tradition in the family for many decades, if not centuries.

Our ancestors settled in Hungary from Germany in the 18th century. The family has been involved in viticulture and wine-making in the Villány wine region since 1850. Since then a love of wine and the knack of how to make it have been carried from father to son, out of which the present family enterprise has grown.

Today’s successes Are clearly linked to an understanding wife and stable family. József Bock’s wife Valéria previously worked as a teacher but she sacrificed her vocation as the firm expanded.

It was natural for the children to tread the well-worn path of their parents, and so today the whole family is actively involved in the business. It can therefore be stated that at present two generations of Bocks are represented behind the Bock logo.
